I have a 503 amp (1015) I am rebuilding for a friend. Turns out that the primary winding of the output transformer is open. I'm pretty handy with output transformer replacements on later '50's amps and have always had good luck with Hammond replacements. The transformer on this model is inside the chassis and much smaller physically than those that mount on top of the chassis. Was looking at the Hammond offerings and it looks like the #125E is pretty close and will fit inside the chassis. I'm a little concerned, the data sheet has a limit of 15W output. This amp, of course, has 6L6's and 400V B+ and can put out 20W. Will that be OK? And, how to I connect the neg. feedback using that model. Spec. sheet: www.hammfg.com/files/parts/pdf/125E.pdf I would love to use my old favorite - #1645 but not enough room on top of the chassis. They made a bizillion of these amps, what is usually used for a replacement? Thanks for any advice! Frank Benner

Hi Frank, checkout the Hammond 1620, it's a bit smaller than the 1645 (which I agree is a great transformer) perhaps it might fit, I've used it in 1940's jukes with success although never replaced one on a 503 amp. It will hold up just fine.
