I know this is a basic question… but where is the latch or trip which allows access to replace the fluorescent bulb on the top part of a Seeburg SS-160 jukebox? I am new to the forum and have no training on jukeboxes. I currently have three jukeboxes and would love to be trained on how to work on them. Thank you!

That's what the manual says The final sentence that's been cut off just goes on to say that they are accessible. Norman.

Thank you for your help. So, to open the top glass, do you know where the latch is to access that? I moved a year ago and can’t find my manual. Is it to the top right once the bottom glass is opened (which has the title strips, etc. enclosed)? When I changed the top bulb ten years ago, it seemed easy.

My understanding of what the manual says is that you unlock the cabinet (lower part) so that it's sitting partially open and then you are able to open the top section by pulling it towards you from each lower corner and it will swing up. But I do know what it's like sometimes trying to remember how to access some sections of jukeboxes!
Norman.

It’s frustrating. I still can’t find the way to get the top lid open. I did about ten years ago when that bulb blew before. I remember it was very simple. When I figure it out, I’ll put a piece of tape next to the latch or button and write it down. I’m not talking about the middle section that lifts up to replace the records, needle, etc. I know that part just pulls upward. Thank you for the suggestions.

Hmm… I lost my key to the side of the jukebox, but I can still lift my lid up to access record changes, etc. Maybe I need to get a locksmith to make me a new key?? Not sure if turning the lock mechanism would release the too, but it’s a possibility?? Thank you so much for the video.

You can purchase a key from a variety of vendors: jukeboxaddicts.proboards.com/thread/4472/newly-updated-parts-suppliers-resourcesTurning the lock mechanism will not open the top, only sliding the lid forward. Check the video again. Pay attention to about 3:30 minutes into it, and again at about 5:30 minutes. The video explains in detail what actuates the top latch. Quite frankly, if you can't get it open from watching the video there's not much else we can do!

I did watch the video and it makes perfect sense, but the latch isn’t releasing the top when the glass lid is raised, unfortunately.

Hi Shannon, In order for the upper display lid to be released, the lower cabinet lid with the title strips also needs to be raised. If you look at the pivot point for the lower lid, on the inside of the cabinet sides you will find some black painted pieces of metal near the top. Under normal circumstances they will move forward and unlatch the upper lid. If they are stuck, you may need to pry them forward. There is one on each side. Sam talks about those pieces briefly in the video. It's possible someone either tried to force the upper lid open or slammed it shut and damaged or bent these latches. If you take a few pictures someone here may be able to make sense of what's happening. Good luck
