I am finishing the mechanical refresh/restore/play of this jukebox with which I was not familiar with previously. The 556 Amp was not working correctly so I purchased a rebuilt one to install and it seems to work fine. However, in playing a few records I decided to cancel a currently playing record to test the 'play reject button' on the middle, back of the cabinet. When I pushed the button, the amp produced a loud squelch. To get the noise to stop, I turned off and restarted the box. It returned to playing the same record, which's play was not canceled without the squelch. Pushing the button again, however, resulted in the same resulting noise. In examining the wiring of this 'play reject button' inside the back of the cabinet, the button had a long, double stranded speaker-type wire dropping into the back of the control box. The wire seemed to be connected properly but obviously a problem existed. I have searched my Service and Parts Manual and can find neither an illustration of the exterior back panel showing the power switch, volume control or suspected play reject button. Therefore, I am assuming this button to be the proper reject button and its purpose is as implied. Can someone confirm my assumption; explain where and to what the double wires should be terminally attached; and whether that squelch could be caused by the wiring and pressing of this button? The same squelch did occur randomly in the playing of a different record and not related to pressing the button.
Thanks Marty
