Lights up but does not play records. It will not grab a record. Any suggestions? Had someone rip me off saying they could fix it and could not.

Lights up but does not play records. It will not grab a record. Any suggestions? Had someone rip me off saying they could fix it and could not. I know the feeling. I've been ripped off before. What are the symptoms? How far along does it get? If you put a dime in, does it give you a credit and light up the "make any selection" light to the left of the keys? If it gives you a credit, and you push a number and letter button to select a song, is the credit removed, does the "make any selection" light goes out, do the keys snap back, and does the mechanism start to scan? Once scanning back and forth, does it scan twice and stop at the far right of the track without playing your selection? Does it just continue to scan over and over until you turn the machine off? Does it not scan at all? One extremely simple thing that you can check, if you open the lid, look at the lower left corner, down by the lower fluorescent bulb. There's a service switch there. Make sure it's all the way to the right, that's the "play" position. The middle position is the "off" position, (press the credit button twice to stop the mech anywhere on the track in this position), all the way to the left is the "scan" position and it's spring-loaded to drop back into the "off" position once you take your finger off of it. While held in this position, with the mech moving back and forth, you can press the credit button to add credits without inserting coins. Make sure that switch is in the play position, then drop a coin in and let us know EXACTLY what they symptoms are, what EXACTLY it does, if anything. If you don't already have one, you NEED the manuals for it, as you've already heard. You said you got ripped off, what work did you pay to have done? Was the work just not done or is it that what was done didn't solve the problem?
