Hello everyone, I have a seeburg that I think is a ay160 and around a 1960. From looking at all your post I am sure its a ay160 but no other idenification. Is there any way to identify the true model no. The identification tag is gone from the rear of the unit. The rivets are still there but no tag. It is a tube machine with no coin box installed. I have had it for about 35 years and was just sitting in the basement. It worked fine years ago but now it needs some TLC. I ordered the service, parts and troubleshooting guide from victory glass and want to get her back to life. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

Ordering the service manual is a good first step.
I'm assuming you ordered a manual for an AY160, otherwise you will have the wrong paperwork!
Once you receive the manual you will be able to confirm the model of your machine... just see if the components match the documentation in the manual.

Thank you for this information. The manuals are due in on Thursday 8/8/24. I will go thru these manuals and try to identify the correct model. The links that Hildegard sent me are wonderful. This unit does has Artist of the week on the upper glass and a clear square glass on the upper right with with nothing in it. also it is stereo. 10 cent and 25 cent coin up to one dollar. I see from the pics it is missing a few parts. i will check with the rest of the images and manuals to determine the model. Thank you so much Ken

So it should be an AY160 model. The upper r.h. square "frame" is for adding e.g. a record cover behind the glass. It should attract guests in the location. For a stereo version you should have amplifier SHFA3 or SHFA4 installed. If a USPU-1 "Universal Single Pricing Unit" is installed, then it should be a model having an "U" as a suffix: AY160U. In case a receiver (stepper) is installed factory set, then suffix "R" had been on the ID plate too. It seems no Half-Dollar Unit is installed, so no suffix "H" had been on the ID plate. If you're located in USA resp. having a 117V/60cy machine, then no "E" had been on the ID plate (means: No export version).
Anyway, enjoy the jukebox, exploring and working on it - and later the music it will play.

OK. The manuals arrived on time. It is a ay160. So on to troubleshooting. The original problem is that it would scan 2 times and stop. So I followed the troubleshooting guide and this is whats happening now. So following the steps in the manual it has you connect a jumper wire from test terminal c to the the inside of the tsu momentary and it should trip while scanning. Nothing happens. So to continue on it has you select a song and while its scanning momentarily jump terminal A to terminal B. Well this actually stopped at a song pulled the record, played the record and when finished put the record back in the cartridge, but now turntable will remain spinning and mechanism will not scan or return to proper position. I can not stop it from spinning even when rear eject button is depressed on back panel. can not move the mechanism by hand left or right. If i lift up on the lever in mechanism it will pull the same record out , play and reset it back into the cartridge, then it just sits there and spins again. I can get it to stop if i move the service switch to the center position and bump the black button 2 times. Moving the service switch to the left to cancel it does nothing but I hear a click. But it will not scan or go back to the right position. I read that the plunger might be stuck but not certain. Any Ideas would be great. Ken

A gummed up plunger is a often problem. So cleaning it is always a good idea.
When the "carriage sits and spins" - did you try procedure 18AY from the trouble shooting guide?
Another idea: Maybe the motor coupler did break, means the rubber got torn? If this part does not work properly, the motor can't operate right for the different needs like scanning, taking / returning the record or playing it.

Thank you Hildegard, Well this unit has not been used in about 10 years. The carriage ASSY is so gummed up from the original oil that many parts are just not moving. I can get it to move if pressed in the rear of carriage next to the clutch with long screw driver and help the linkage move up but the gummed up parts are the problem. I have no idea if I can clean and oil this while still in the cabinet. I really don't want to remove the record rack but this might be the only way to give it a good cleaning and lube. Also, can the carriage be removed completely? I guess I should purchase Ron's mechanism guide before I tear into this? Once again, Thanks for all the help Ken
