Hi All,
I am trying to help out a friend.
She has a Wurlitzer 1700 that has a lot of loud static as the tonearm moves onto the record to play. Once the record is playing the static is gone.
However, the static is also there if I move the tonearm off the record whilst it is playing. It is very loud!
I replaced the Cobra needle without any improvement.
I assume the tone arm wire is shorting somewhere on the metal of the tonearm.
Am I correct? How can I check and fix this?
Regards
Gordon....

Hi Gordon, The Cobra operates through ca-axial cable and the outer sheath is grounded at the arch on both sides - so it's exactly the opposite you're probably looking for, a ground that is missing.
