I know they're hard as hell to find when one melts down and expensive to boot. I'm not having any problems right now and my selection receiver, (TSU-1 in a Q-160 S), has been gone through and I've got no problems right now but I'm just wondering. Mine is definitely warm, (I know that's subjective), but far from too warm to touch or even hold on to. I'm just wondering how warm one of these gets if its on all day when it's healthy. Also, what are the symptoms of one going out, other than smoke and melting shellac/wax?

You have a problem--They normally run "comfortably warm" to the touch. I would check to see what size fuse is installed, and would cut the power from the main fuse with a 2.8 slo blo in series with the transformer.

Jake, they do run warm. If in doubt, check all the voltages coming out of it. FWIW: I agree with Ron's suggestion regarding the fuse, I use 3 amp-slow as main and fuse individual outs.

I'll check out the fuse size this evening and go from there. Thanks! I'm glad I asked now rather than wait.
