Question about selection issue

My Regis plays most selections but some don’t want to play or are sporadic.
I get loud click when pressing buttons and wheel turns but it bypasses some selections .
Some pins move to play position but the unit that runs over the wheel bypasses them.
Do the pins have to energize to be picked up or just have to be in the play position?

All pins need to be easily moveable.
Yes, a contact hat to be made between the pin and the carriage which runs over the pins. But as most selections do come fine Ithe carriage contacts might be (still) ok.
The problem can be located too in the keyboard, the wiring harness or in the selection drum itself of course
