Greetings all. Recently purchased a nonworking 437 Jukebox. The gripper was gummed up and not moving and the record magazine would turn slowly and erratically in scan mode. Using brakeclean I cleaned and lubed the gears well enough that the gripper works and the record magazine turns at a fairly fast and steady rate. Here are the problems I am having.
1. I can select a record selection and the right lever will get tripped into position. However when the wiper mechanism comes around it will click at the selected pin but come to a stop several pins past.
2. the record magazine will than also come to a stop several records past the selection. If I keep trying the same selection the magazine will keep stopping at close to the same wrong location.
3. The gripper will attempt to pick up the record while the record magazine is still not fully stopped. As a result it is missing record or smashing along side of it.
4. The pin that was correctly tripped by the selector will not get tripped back to off position because the hammer coil is not located properly at it. I do see the hammer is tripping , but out of position.
5. If I manually reset all the pins. the record magazine will continue revolving unless I turn it off.
This is my first attempt at repairing a jukebox. I do have the service manual. From my I can discern it seems like the braking mechanism is not functioning. Could this have anything to do with Interlock Relay or Magazine Motor relay in Control box? If testing of switches or relays is involved, I would appreciated some coaching on what instruments I need and how to do the tests. I have basically no electrical background but hope I could muddle though with a little coaching. Any help is much appreciated. I have attempted cleaning some of the contacts and the bands the wipers run along on the wheel with contact cleaner.
