Hello, I just acquired a 450 and looks to have a few issues.
1. Selection buttons do not work, so I bypassed that part by pressing in a pin. The read out arm starts to turn and finds the pin, but then nothing happens. I only have the 448/449 manual and I am stuck on sequence 20 where the striking of the lever never happens and gripper motor never starts. Any ideas where to start? Is there a way to progress manually to the next step of the record being placed on the turntable? I am stuck now with the turntable spinning while nothing happens. I did try cleaning the readout side and fingers as stated in the sticky section and problem still exists.
2. Before I tried the above, there was a record playing on the turntable and when the tone arm went to the end of the record, you can hear a click, but the gripper motor doesn't take the record back. I did verify that micro switch number 1 is working because I swapped out a working one. I also cleaned all of the contacts in the reverse relay in control box. I was able to manually activate the reverse relay and gripper motor took the record back. Also, the mute relay does work after you hear the click of the tone arm reaching the end. The manual cancel switch also does not work and that is on the same circuit as the tone arm switch. For this sequence, it looks like number 26.
My dad has a 460. Do you think I could swap out the control box and try it on my 450? I have the parts guide for the 460, but not for the 450 to see if the part numbers are the same.
Do you think these 2 problems are related? Thanks for the help.

1. Is the hold contact for the trip coil clean and making OK (contact 11 on schem-a-gram)?
2. Is it the reversing relay that's clicking? If so, it's likely to be these contacts (despite you cleaning them!) although bad wiring connections would produce the same effect.
I'm not sure about the control boxes (probably)?
Norman.

Is your gripper in smooth working condition? loosen your motor to the gripper and see if it's working. These gripper assemblies can get totally locked up by old grease

Thanks for the replies.
1. Cleaned the trip coil and gripper motor took the record and started playing! But then it wasn't hammering the pin down, so I cleaned the 2A micro switch connections and that fixed it!
2. The click I am hearing is the mute relay. I don't hear anything in the control box. Gripper motor runs good when it transfers the record to the turntable and when I manually press the reverse relay, it smoothly places the record back.

You need to refer to the appropriate schem-a-gram ie sequence 26 on page 60 to determine why the reversing relay is not energising. For example, there is a diode in the circuit, is it open circuit?
