Hopefully someone can help me!
So when a record finishes playing, the turntable drops down like it’s supposed to. When the turntable drops down or stop I’m not sure which, a metal on metal sliding sound that’s kind of loud is heard. My description of it would be like if a Victor gramophone brake didn’t have leather on it and it was metal on metal when you stopped the turntable. Any idea on what could cause this?
Besides that it runs great. One thing I found and I’m not sure if it’s the machine, but if you turn it off with selections still available, when you turn it back on if you press #1 it clicks but doesn’t play, but if you select a different record it’ll play it then try to play #1. But if I expend all selections before I turn it off there’s no issue. Or maybe it could’ve been that the selection master unit didn’t have a chance to warm up yet who knows lol
Last question would be, can I use the standard multipurpose red grease instead of the lubriplate suggested in the manual? I have loads of it in the shop, so it would be nice just to go ahead and use that. What do you use to put grease on? Just with fingers and fill the gear grooves with the grease? Never did it before so I’m curious on exactly how to grease the parts required.
Thanks!!

Edison, No idea on the sound--watch/listen for it --!
RTFM, to get an understanding on "how it (or should)works"--you should then be able to answer the #1 question yourself !
IMHO, "combining grease" is NEVER a good idea. If you want to change the grease, all of the old must first be removed, as sure as "heck", you will find the combination quickly turns to glue. Fingers--stick, old wire-cut up, coat hangar--work well, as anything else I have tried ! Ron Rich

Do you make a super thin layer of grease? Or do you fill up the spaces between gear teeth etc?

Edison, I tend to use as little as possible--you want the grease to HELP, things slide past each other--not hinder the sliding process. Ron Rich

Hey Rich,
Could I simply replace the incandescent bulb in the dome with a flourescent or led type? It doesn’t have a top animation, just bulb, and I just kind of want to keep the dome from getting hot.

Look in the parts book for the correct type lamp--service manual may also contain that info on the specs. page-- Ron Rich

I found out what’s causing the noise. The turntable is dropping down too far causing it to hit the gear and cam. I can’t figure out how to adjust.

Seeburg manual. Shows page 2040, 2041, 2042. Shows the adjustment of this cam. However no matter where I put it it doesn’t change anything it seems...the turntable still drops too low and hits the gears after playing. Starting to wonder if the switch that engages the cam needs to be bent up, so it opens sooner since the cam isn’t making any difference...I don’t know :-((

Edison, I get only one page, 2041, which has no relationship to the turn table position, that I can see ?? If it can't be "adjusted", I would need to assume, that after 70+ years of operation, and un-doubtly a lack of, or improper lubrication, that either the cam has worn down, or the roller is worn down. You may be able to compensate for this, with a larger size roller---?? Ron Rich
