Hi Alan, The TT should be running, before the record hits it--do not re-call, but I think most RO's run the turntable off the same switch/relay, that starts the "play cycle"--see your schematic ! Ron Rich

Hi Alan, I was looking at a 490 last week with a multitude of problems and among them, the turntable didn't run. In the 490, the turntable power is switched via a triac within the power supply unit. I don't know whether your one is the same? The original documentation came with a large fold out schematic. I am awaiting a copy coming from Stamann in Germany for the 490, it should be here when I get back from holiday. FYI, Stamann is closed for the whole of September. Norman.

A bit of further clarification, the model 490-1 uses a triac to switch the turntable power. The previous model 490 uses a contact on the play control relay so that's what I expect would have been done on the 480. Norman.

Hi Alan, It, as well as information as to which triac is used, is located in your service/parts,manuals, and schematics ! Ron Rich

Hi Alan, I have no idea, as to what, nor why you are "changing relays" ? Are you changing the coils, or the whole thing-- relay coils seldom fail--they can be checked very easily. Most relay contacts can be serviced. As for acquiring parts--see the FAQ's section here, on the forum. Ron Rich
