Does anyone have a recommendation on paint for USC-2? Are their any lists anywhere of the color mixes and paint types used originally?
The metal back and wood parts seem to be a satin black but the grill on the front seems to have a purple tint to it. The gray stripe on the side seems to have some color it as well.
Ron, does the company Advance Automatic Sales Co ring a bell? This unit has one of their sales stickers on the back of it.

Hi Stephen, Yep--I most likely am the person that stuck that sticker on that phono--I worked there for about 10 years--( 1350 Howard St SF CA 415-431-1750 ?) As for paint, I'll go look it up for you--will be old numbers--may be different today ?? Gray Krylon # 1605---- Black Sullivan # 56173 ( this many be the Seeburg part # for it--don't remember) The "purple" you see is from the diffuser under the lower flour. lamp. Ron Rich

Thanks Ron. Maybe I'll leave the sticker on there in honor.
Are paints listed in any of the service manuals for any of the models? I'll see if I can find something for my paint pot based on those numbers; that is if I can find oil paint in our lovely nanny state.

Hi Stephen, I attempted to get it placed on at least the Service manual cover--pretty much failed-- did get it on one 100 selection model-- somehow-- One of the wars, I lost-- lol-- Ron Rich

As I strip this down to clean and then paint I came upon the SN11. I'd like to replace the capacitors but can't figure out what they are. The ones installed have no marking left on them.
Where in the service manuals is this located? I've looked through the LS1-USC2 manuals and don't see a parts list or schematic for it. I'm sure it is there and I just keep missing it.

Hi Stephen, Yep-they left it out of many manuals--think it's in the parts manual--anyway--VERY seldom fail, I don't replace them unless leaky--test them with your cap meter--they are 8 uf NP x 10+ wv. Ron Rich

Okay. I started sanding the trim and selection lid, and the dust definitely is coming off with a purple tint to it. Could this be using parts from a USC-1? I'll have to go with a straight black to paint with, which is too bad, I like the reflection of the purple with the orange lights.

Stephen, What are you sanding ? The lid assembly, as far as I know was metal--either plated, or painted a gloss black--don't recall-- Ron Rich

I've stripped off nearly all of the metal trim pieces (anything not chrome) to sand down the rough edges of paint and gouges from years of abuse. Anything around the selection lid and the long strip that has the lid bumpers on it and holds down the purple plastic strip has that deep purple/black on it. It is not a color I can find anywhere. I could mix something up but it's not worth it. The top and bottom grills are black for certain so I'll go with black gloss but the purple sure is nice, if only it wasn't so beat up I'd have left it.

Stephen, Still un-clear on what is "purple" ? Only thing I can think of is the plastic diffuser used on the USC-1 models to shine the light up wards on the "bandshell" ( cause it "broke", often )? Can't recall what color it was on the USC-2 models--just remember it was different ( just lighter--maybe?). If so, you do not want to "paint" it--it should shine light through it -- Ron Rich

Stephen,
I looked at my USC1, I believe the parts you are asking about are actually black anodized aluminum, this can have a purple-ish tint, especially when you consider 40+ years of aging and patina.
I think you'll be hard pressed to find a reasonable duplicate in a spray can.

Ya, I've given up matching those particular pieces. They are definitely anodized but the color is a very deep purple and in most angles nearly black. For now I'm going to leave them and paint the rest to see how it matches up. I have some waxes that may work to fill in the scratches and feather the color. Never expected to have to dig in to my body shop past to paint a jukebox. I'd have killed to be able to get this kind of purple on an old car of mine.

Stephen, Youz lucky you can see that--I can't as I'm what the Army called "shade blind" --I see only black on them -- Ron Rich
