I have a 498 that works great except for it will not select an 8 or 9 on the last digit. So if I puss the number 118 or 119 the err appears on the screen. I can push 180 or 190 and it works fine. So the 8 and 9 does work in the second digit. This applies to the 200 side also. Any help would be great.

Hi, The 498 came as 200 or 160 vinyl selections - so if what you have is a 160 selection model, 118 or 119 will not be available. Otherwise, I would imagine (having never seen a 498!) that 200 or 160 selections is programmable (although I don't know for sure) - so check the manual. Norman.

It's a 200 selection so it goes from 100 to 199. And 200 to 299. Anytime you have a 8 or a 9 in the last digit it faults.

Figured it out. jukenorman was right when he talked about it being available in 160 and 200. I must have bumped the dip switch 7 when I replaced the battery. It selects 160 or 200. Thanks, you pointed me in the right direction. Great site

I also have a 498. I cannot get all of the LED digits on the display to show. It is like some of the segments of the display are out. The 8 and 9 selection on the keyboard also do not work. Sometimes it will not allow credits to be added and selections to be made until I mess with the cable that goes from the keyboard to the board that is attached with three nuts to the keyboard. I have tried reflowing that board with no help. I have looked for a replacement keyboard, but cannot find one. I wonder if the one from a 490 would work (it has mechanical keys). It looks like it uses the same 50 pin ribbon cable, but there is another set of wires attached and that would be where I would not know where to connect them up to . Any help would be appreciated. I have tried the 7 dip switch.

Hi Michael, If that's a "ribbon cable", with black colored connectors, you most likely will need to cut the end(s?) off it and replace them. Didja check with several of the suppliers listed in our FAQ's section for replacement cables, or plugs themselves ?--may be available !! Ron Rich
