Finally finished my remote for my STD160 and it works fine but the prvc motor is very loud. Is this normal? I assumed that with such a small motor it wouldn't make all that much noise. Or is there a way to quiet it down?

Ron,
I'm feeling a bit lost here because I'm not sure what you mean. It's mounted inside the STD160 like it's supposed to be. I'm not sure else what it could be mounted to.

Stephen, Once again--mounted to what --the cabinet wall ? If so, find the set of directions for a PRVC-4, and mount it correctly--that's why it is so noisy--that back wall is like a drum - and that motor is the drum stick ! Ron Rich

Gotcha, I'll check the directions again and make sure I didn't miss something. And yes, mounted to the cabinet wall. The sound it makes is like a bunch of loose bearings grinding...very annoying. And where I have the unit now it may not be needed, I'll just end up running a reject button somewhere easier to reach.

Stephen, mine is loud too. I had figured that maybe they're just naturally loud by default. I'm not so sure if Seeburg as a company was concerned about noise on the motor considering most of those phonos were in loud bars or clubs back in the day. If you think about it, those volume controls would never be heard over all the noise.

Hi Carl, If mounted directly onto the metal rear wall, withOUT the provided gasket, I too, KNOW they are loud. But if mounted per the instructions, using the gasket--they really should not be heard, unless standing at the phono--- Ron Rich

I have the gasket mounted in. Must be a noisy motor then. The music overpowers it anyways and it's only temporary while turning the volume up so I'm not worried. I was a little surprised at first but then got used to it.

Yes, mine as well. The gasket is in place and unless the volume is way up I hear the motor. I'll see if I can work on it to quiet it down then try again.

Hi Guyz, Probably was not really considered, as most jukes, in commercial service, always ran at half or more of the control's setting. I have installed "millions" of new ones--I can recall hearing the motors run, but never considered how loud it was-- Operating in a home, the control would be set way lower (if the STD was set up correctly--cabinet speakers on the 50 watt taps), so I guess motor noise would be more objectionable ? Might try opening the gear box and re-distributing the grease, back onto the nylon gears ?? Ron Rich

Thanks Ron. The grease is what I planned on checking. I don't mind motor noise so much but it sounds like a really loud bearing so when I get a chance I'll pull it apart and see what happens.

Stephen, Been awhile since I played with one--I do not recall any "bearing" in it--all "plastic" to "plastic" parts--- Ron Rich
