looked at this yesterday and wanted opinions. about a 5 year old restoration, has the wrong amp in it, is an MRA1. redhead cart. plays but is way quieter than should be. mechanism doesn't have the AVC switch like I believe it should. has an aftermarket motor in it, not an original seeburg (bodine??) like it should be. produces an intermittent hum/whine when scanning and picking up records, sounds to be from mechanism and not speaker. veneer is dried out as he placed it beside a fireplace that was run frequently, so it's dried out; cracked in one place and rippled about 80% elsewhere-looks good from afar but up close you can see or feel it. song title trim is "cheap chrome" that isn't smooth and kinda orange-peel/pitting appearance. entire animation is aftermarket, not original chain driven setup. ONE selection out of the ones I tried doesn't work, it just scans past it and doesn't pick it up; the pin is out though so the coil is working. lower leather strip that goes around the bottom with the rivets/pins is coming off in some spots.
aside from the flaws it looks like a good restoration, painted inside the cabinet nicely and wires hung/organized well. correct stickers and labels everywhere. nice paint and chrome aside from the mentioned above. looking for any comments, opinions on value, or input based on info given -kevin

Hi Kevin, "-- Aftermarket motor--" I doubt that--never saw an aftermarket motor that would fit ? Low audio, would indicate an amp problem-- "no AVC switch" ? If a model "C" mech., it had one when it left the factory--did someone remove it ? If there or not, it won't be operative with a MRA-1, unless that -1 has been kitted with the optional AVC unit. I "don't do cosmetics", but it sounds as if it's "do-able" ? BTW--no "veneer" was ever used on these-- it was/is a "photo finish" by 3M, called "Di-noc" (sp??). Ron Rich

ron,
3m was making these finishes for seeburg even back then in the 50's?! if so, that's crazy; I didn't realize that! any idea what a fair price would be for this thing-considering the issues at hand?
