Hi everyone, I'm new to this, please bear with me. I have a Rowe AMI R-84 model which plays well and does not appear to have any problems however the most popular selection display stays on the same number no matter how many times any selection is played. Is there a reset or initialization procedure to get this functional?

Hi Ron, thanks for your response. I obtained a rebuilt CCC board from a AMI familiar repair person, Jim Sluter. I was having problems with the selection process, mainly it didn't work! Since I installed the rebuilt board all seems to be well except this one function. How do I troubleshoot this?

Hey Ron, I don't believe I can, our business was transacted years ago, he was an older gentleman in poor health and on the verge of retirement. So are you saying that's my only option? I was hoping this forum would provide me with some ideas. Certainly this could not be the only time this problem has been experienced.....

OK Leo--Did you check the battery, as I suggested above ? How many "selections" have you made since installation, of the computer ? Have you "reset the memorac" lately ? Ron Rich

Hey Ron I'm NOT well versed in these things, please explain how to check the batteries (I know where they are) and how to reset the memorac!

Leo, If when you have had the phono off/un-plugged, for a while, and you plug it in and power it up, if the basket "homes", the battery is dead. You also can use a meter, although that's NOT 100 % reliable. Ron Rich

Ron thanks for that piece of information. Nothing like that happens, when I power it up there appears to be a loud pop, I believe it's the amp, but no hums of any kind. Now what about the memorac?

I did not mention "hums" - I axked if the basket that holds the records, "homes" -- in other words, spins around to find it's "home position". If you are using the switch to turn it off/on, you should NOT get that "pop" --

Hi Ron, you are really up on this, I'm sorry that I did not understand what you were saying, as I said I'm challenged. You are absolutely correct when I use the switch to turn it on and off there is no "pop". Regarding the "home position", yes it appears to always spin and stop where it should and as I've said it has no problem finding the correct selection and "stacking" selections. However, the most popular display always shows "232"

Hi Leo, My question is-- when you FIRST, turn it on, either with the switch, or by plugging it in, does the basket spin, or remain stationary ? Ron Rich

It spins.

Leo, Your battery is dead/missing ?--It can't "remember" which selections have been made to create a "list". Ron Rich

OK thank you, if I recall correctly, my CCC board has two small batteries (they look like AA's) in parallel together hard soldered to the board. I don't know if that's correct or someone's version of a fix. What type of battery or batteries are required and is soldering the only way to put them in place? Also what keeps these batteries from dying prematurely?
