Hello to all
Can someone help me with the following problem with the selection of my Row Ami Jan Diplomat.
When I do the following handlings:
1) I put the switch in the selection center to ON 2) When I press the credit button to make credits in the credit unit , the latch coil and Push Rod Assembly locks on. 3) But when I press a number push button and letter push button, the latch coil stays locked in.
4) Only when I put the switch from the selection center back to OFF, the latch coil locks off.
Any ideas how this can be?
Thanks

Hello Didier,
Sorry you did not give a name.
You want to check the open & closed contacts on the relays on the keyboard, also clean and check the S1 & S2 open relays on the search unit, I usually clean the contacts with a paper taper pulled between the contacts, check that the contacts are all opening & closing under pressure.

Hello Alan
I've read the manual of the Row Ami Jan Diplomat whit all it steps.
Everything works until: When the R5 start relay is activated, contact 1 and 2 should trigger the search unit motor and whippers on the search unit.
But it doesn't do that at all?
What could it be?
Thanks Alan for the help.
Kind regards

Didier, That symptom could indicate the relay contacts are "dirty/pitted/burned", or the motor is jammed. Check voltage on the motor, it should have 25 VAC there when the relay is energized. Has that motor been oiled lately (SAE 20 wt. motor oil in the felt wicks)? Do you know how to "clean" relay contacts ? If not read our FAQ's section on them. Ron Rich

The voltage should be 28 to 30 volts.
Is the Search Unit motor fitted with a pulley with belts or the older clutch type? The older type did not have a thermistor but the later type did have a thermistor in series with the motor windings, if this has gone open circuit it will need replacing.

Hi Alan, "25 vac" is considered "nominal" here, in the USA. -- anything from an exact reading of 24, on through 32 vac, is called out as "25". Over an exact reading of 32 vac, requires different insulation to be used if the wire is to be run in a building's walls, also different fusing. This is the "National Code", which is in many areas, locally different, as to requirements. Ron Rich

Dear Ron and Alan
Thank you both for the good tips.
I think to have found the problem.
So when start relay R5 was energized , notting happened.
So I tested the search unit motor for a voltage of 25 VAC. I measered notting.
After making a selection with the number and letter pressbuttons, I began turning the motor iddler gear, the sprag relay S1 lifted up, kept on turning and the S2 relay activated the record magazine(it was searching th record like it must do).
Question: Is the search unit motor broken, or is it the contacts behind the motor?
Thanks
Kind regards

Hi Didier, From what you have written, I would suspect contacts on R5 are not making good contact ? Check our FAQs section on "contact cleaning". Has that motor been properly oiled lately ?? Ron Rich

Hi Didier,
The Search Unit motor is switched by a normally open contacts on R1 and normally open contacts on R5.There are two normally closed contacts on S1 & S2 that feed the common to the motor.

Hello Alan
Almost a playing Row Ami Jan Diplomat :-) Thanks to you and Ron, many thanks.
I replaced the search unit motor. Now everything is working. Question 1: on the cicuit board (search unit) there is a capacitator - ceramic disc .01 MFD 500 V. Why is this capacitator there and can this influence the working of the search unit?
Question 2: When the gripperarm place the record on the turntable, the tone arm goes on the record but after 2 second it goes back off the record and the record is placed back. What could this be?
Sorry for these questions.
Thanks and kind regards
Kind Regards

Hi Didier, That cap, it would be my guess, is a "noise suppression" cap, or a "spark arrestor" cap. One or more of the "cancel" (aka "Reject") switches are closed ??
