My wife bought a 1400. It is now up to me to get it working.
I have lights and some bad noise when I power it up. I assume the first step is to get a manual.
What is the go to place to get a manual? Is there an electrical manual?
Thanks,
Mark

Got the manual and started trouble shooting.
The first problem is when I power up the box, there is a loud buzzing, like a 60 hertz sound. Did not see anything specific in the manual about a 60 hertz buzzing in the amplifier section. Any suggestions on where to start?
I assume there is at least, one bad relay sticking or has an open. And I would need to get inside the amplifier enclosure.
I have opened up the front and back and it appears from the manual, the amplifier section can also be pulled partway out.
The top plate with the transformers looks like I can remove it, but what do you do with it?
Suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hi Mark, Do NOT plug it in with that "buzzing sound" Are you sure it's coming from the amp ? Un plug the Amp's AC cord and plug in the jukebox to see if you still hear that "Buzz". WurliTzer, as well as most makes of jukes allowed the whole amp to be easily removed. If you do not have the skills to diagnose, and repair that amp, check the list of "repair persons" in our FAQ's section for someone who is---Ron Rich

Yes, the noise is coming from the amp assembly. In fact it vibrates. The AC wires directly into the amp.
I have the amp out and am amazed at the rats nest of wires/resistors/capacitors. No circuit boards...
I will find out if I have the skills to diagnose the problems, but believe I have the skills to fix whatever is wrong.
Are there folks on this board that can coach me through the diagnostic process?

Hi Mark, Somewhat-- On that amp, you should start by checking/replacing all caps, and resistors--Do not plug it in unless you have a "dim bulb" tester in series with the AC ! Ron Rich

Ron,
Your recommendation for a dim bulb tester is a great idea. I spent the afternoon building one, and once I had the amplifier assembly out of the cabinet, I powered it up using a 75 watt bulb in the tester. The bulb did not blow and the amp did not have the buzzing. So a good day.
I did a visual inspection of the components and wiring inside the amp. I did not see any burned resistors or capacitors. The only odd thing I noted was one of the tube sockets had lots of solder on some of the "pins" and looked different than the others. Otherwise, I did not see any obvious problems. But now that the buzzing is stopped for now, I believe next is to put the amp back in the cabinet and start plugging wires back in until the buzzing starts again.
Or if anyone has a suggestion, fire away.

Mark,
Did you replace the electrolytic capacitors? A visual inspection won't tell you much. Capacitors usually die of old age, not burn up. If they are original I would just about guarantee they need replaced. I have not worked on a wurlitzer amp before but just got a 1250 that I plan to restore.
