So I have and r that someone wired a free play and reject button I am assuming this what we are talking about? if so what brand should I be looking to replace this? what the fo [faux] credit unit does is release engage the solenoid when the first button is pushed and releases on the second button or time out this avoids the solenoid being left on
yes there are other ways like a push button in parallel with the coin switch just be sure to use all the credits

Hi all I can see someone with a SS160 has replied here already. My latch bar solenoid is in that same place- for those that aren't aware, there are two service pins on each end of the fluorescent tube that allows you to lift and tip out the front glass for easier access. Someone prior to myself removed the coin acceptor/rejector and has somehow wired the latch bar solenoid to remain energized whenever the power is on as Ron has warned. However, the "Release" button does work to de-energize the solenoid. I can already see that the credit wheel on my DPU is damaged- a few teeth have been broken and the rest are heavily worn, but all fuses are intact and correct. What I have done is simply move one of the wires on the "Release" button to the center terminal, so that the latch bar solenoid is energized ONLY when the "Release" button is pressed and held down. In this way, I can press and hold, make my selection, release the "Release" button and the record plays as normal. The latch bar solenoid remains relaxed and cool. Does anyone have any cautions against this, or is it really that simple on the SS160 model?
