Hi Ron, I just picked up a M 100c, the cabinet and glass are in near mint condition. The unit plays but i dont believe it is near up to standard. I will be recapping the unit over the next week or so. Also there is 4-6 selections that do not work. I have a few general questions i hope you can help me with. Is there a special way to clean the coils that are for selecting, if they need replacing any advice or info to make them easier to exchange? I cant find a main power switch or find it in the manual, And lastly when i take all of the screws and bolts out of the top rail holding the amp, will this release it. I can see the amp has never been touched. thanks for any advice. pete

I dont know if anyone here has removed the cover plate on the numbers selection unit, i see there is to small screws at the top, i have removed them but at the bottom it it appears to be held where it meets the chrome. I was thinking it may be a friction fit but without confirmation do not want to try. thanks pete

Hi Pete, On the first of my 2nd cup o'coffee--so I should be able to answer all questions here ! I do not have a "C" manual-- looking at the "B" manual "picture diagrahm", in the front -- the on/off switch is shown in the WSR on the page that shows the ES operation. (rear of phono--accessible thru a hole in the lower back of cabinet). SAU coils--yep there is a way I did it, but, at this moment, I can not divulge how I do it, do to a promise I made to the person that showed me "his way"-- Hopefully I can and will, post that someday soon, before I die ! Also, as always, anyone that has a method, is encouraged to post it ! See the "fusing" sticky ! NO-- you do not need to, nor should you remove all of the bolts holding the top rear rail-- amp & WSR are easy to remove--just remove the outside door cover (if still "original"--3 wing nuts), and you will soon figure it out. Yes--friction fit on the selection now paying cover. Ron Rich

Hi Ron thanks for your answers, i know i saw this posted somewhere but do you know the color of blue used on the selectomatic 100 ? I notice the electrical selector is very dirty, i am cleaning with water based degreaser then after i have worked all of the buttons, re clean with distilled water. On these units is it possible its bad contact not faulty coils ? pete ps is there a free play adaptor for this unit, at the moment someone has removed the coin reject button and replaced it with a button that gives one free selection at a time. Maybe i should leave well enough alone.

Hi again, i notice on the WSR5-L6 there are only a few lytic caps, but there are about 5 Condensers, should these be replaced, if so do i use mylars, i think the answer is yes, just being careful.

Pete, Color will need to be matched--READ the stickies on "cleaning contacts", and "fusing" ! Yes-- anything's "possible"-- Whatz a "condenser" ? There are some paper caps, and some disc caps-- I replace the paper type with Mylars today-- the discs, unless the "solar" brand, I don't change. Yes-- of course, there is a FPA for it ! Ron Rich

Pete, All "paper" caps have a "line" on them marking "the outside foil" ! Early Mylars did too-- yes, interchangeable -- Ron Rich

Hi Ron i have three caps that are obstructed by a bank of switches, the one i can deal with as it stands, the other two need the switch removed. The base of the switch housing is riveted down, If i remove the two bolts that hold the switches together i can get access. If i do this will it cause major issues when i reassemble or will they just fall back into place.?

Hi Pete, That's the CCU-- just remove the two screws holding the switch-bank-- re-install them carefully so the roller is centered on the cam-- READ THE STICKIES FIRST, PRIOR TO POSTING-- This is covered in the one on "contacts" ! Ron Rich

Hi Ron just recapped the WSR5-L6 , replaced all paper with Mylars. My issue or maybe not is when i plug the unit in using my dim watt bulb tester , after about 4 seconds the bulb dimly comes on. Its a 100 watt bulb. Unfortunately i never tested before recapping and do not know if this is an existing problem or no problem at all, when i recap receivers usually the bulb goes bright then goes out. I not have the 2050 vavle in and its not connected to the amp.

Hi Ron after replacing the paper caps with Mylars and cleaning as per stickies i found what i thought was an issue with the electrical selector, I had removed the selector ,had a 5 gal pail on a stand so i could clean without putting stress on wire. I covered the electrical components and washed the entire selector with first a dish soap and water, then a water based degreaser, then rinsed with distilled water. All the time pushing the buttons to make sure all contacts were clean. After dry oiled moving parts. When i powered up the unit i noticed J1 buttons would stay down no movement of carriage, after a few moments realized J1 is now also one of the selections that dont work, i tried others and found they worked but the pin was not cancelled after the record played so it would go back to the same selection over and over, I took off the back and to my eyes noticed the frog was not parallel with the pin bank, the right was lower than the left, i set the right to the same distance as the left and it seems after trying a few A and B side records, its working again. My problem is i have about 5 selections that dont work, i know you cannot tell me how to change the coils, i think i can figure it out but want to first confirm it is defective coils, do i test from the thin copper wire soldered to the bank to the pin in the center to check resistance, if so what am i looking for for to confirm a good coil. . pete
