Hi again, I'll start from the beginning shall I? I turn the power on at the back and the fluorescent lamps light up, Do the selection buttons light up usually? mine don't. If I select a record the write in gizmo flies round and stops when it's supposed to. That's as far as we get. The write out side doesn't turn the basket and neither does the scan switch. I have wiring schematics but they're making my head hurt trying to understand them. Different voltages/AC/DC, Positive flow/negative flow. TIA, Rod

Hello Rod, Which model Rock-Ola is it? The Select lamp lights up as soon as credit has been establised. The pushbuttons (if thats what you mean when saying "selection buttons") might not light up extra. It depends on which model you've gotten. Also to answer any other wuestions the model ID is important.

Are there lamps under the selection buttons ? A "wright in gizmo" ? Sorry, "gizmo" is not a term RockOla used, nor is "write out" !-- did you read the "Hi Newbies" post in our FAQ's section as you were asked to ? Ron Rich

It's also worth you looing back some previous posts. There is quite a long thread on a 442 started by Ollie that deals with very similar issues, a lot of which will apply to your 434. Norman.

Thanks Norman, I had a read of ollies thread. Interesting. One thing I noticed today whilst removing the cam switches to replace one with a broken casing was that the cancel button at the back was broken/disconnected. I have a switch that I have wondered about since I bought the machine. Just a straight on/off switch. I'll check the wiring diagrams and check where the wires go. I f it turns out to be a cancel switch it may have been permanently rejecting.......... It is the cancel switch wiring so will have to locate a switch to replace it. I'll just leave it unplugged until I test it next. Rod

After more reading and more investigation It seems that it might be the 28v dc power supply that's at fault, I can't seem to get a reading anywhere. Rod

Did your manual come with a diagram of the power supply? It will have a selenium rectifier and the DC rail will be fused. If a fuse has blown, there will be a reason why that will have happened! Norman.

Norman. Hi Norman, Yes, it did come with a wiring diagram. Managed to back track the DC line and found a blown fuse. I have ordered some, but as you say there will be a reason for it to blow. Would a seized record mechanism overload the circuit do you think? Rod

I think that would be possible when you consider that the two mechanism motors are DC powered. Norman.

Hi Norman, fitted new fuse this morning and although it's not working, at least the scan switch clicked. Checked for power at both 2 pin connectors at the motors and I'm getting 30+ volts, so it looks like both motors are shot. I'll pull one off and get it on the bench. Rod

It doesn't absolutely mean that the motors aren't working but it would be no bad thing to service them. The power for the magazine motor is routed through one of the cam switches - as covered in the Ollie 442 thread. Norman.

Hi Rod, Do you know how to properly service those motors ? Ron Rich Hi Ron, no I don't, there's a clip on Youtube but it's in German. I have sent them to a local motor rewind company for them to work their magic. I'd hate to mess things up when we are this close. Rod

Hi Rod, OK-- sounds as if you "done good !"-- What size/type fuse was in that supply ? Ron Rich Hi Ron, it was a 1.6 slo blow which is the recommended rating. I managed to get a pack of ten for £4. Time to tidy up the body while I wait for the motors. I also have a reject button on order (the one at the back) to fit when it arrives. Previous owner said it had been restored but I think tarted up is a better description. Rod
