Hey Ron, Yes, got the new stylus in finally. Will get a good record out of storage to try it out and report back. Not too worried about it. I'll get a NOS SHURE from EPay if it doesn't work out. May give an elliptical stylus a try at some point too. Jico makes one that is rated to 3gram weight that may work OK: www.jico-stylus.com/product/n75ej-2/

Hi Darren, I dono, but have been tolt, by those who "do know", that an elliptical needle is not a good choice for 45 rpm records ?? Ron Rich

Ron, Thanks, been reading up on that. Seems there are varying opinions (you know what they say about opinions ) but most concerns are for mono 45's and possible wear/damage to styrene 45's. I don't have any mono 45's but can't recall if I was using any styrene records. If I try it out I'll post the results here of course.

I'm in the final stages. Doing a more thorough cleaning and some cabinet repairs and repaints. Inspected the bottom woofers while I had things apart and have good news. Even after close to 40 years the surrounds are still in good shape. I guess the West Germans knew how to make stuff back then. I'll post some repair photos later.

Hi Daren, I'd call it part of the cone-- my impression is that the foam rubber used to "surrond" some cones, would be called "surrounds" ? Ron Rich

Here's the cabinet damage I'll be fixing. I'll leave some of the patina but don't care for missing chunks.

Went with a bondo repair since the damage did not go all the way through. Added some dowels for strength at the corner. Used some scrap wood for the forms with painters tape so the bondo won't stick. Should be invisible once painted.

Ron,
Long drive, have to think about it lol. I think it came out too good considering that side will be facing the wall in its final spot haha. People need to see it and appreciate the effort!

Polished the front plexi to remove nearly 40 years of scratches and scrapes. Some of the deeper ones I had to start with 400 grit wet sandpaper then move to 1000 grit before going with the Novus 3 then 2. Came out better than expected. (photo is in process) Also cut a new piece of grill cloth for the woofers.
