Got it. The new motor was installed with the wrong polarity. The instructions called out the motor as having a black and red wire. My motor has a white wire and a white with orange stripe wire. I saw a red dot on the motor next to the white/orange wire so I took a chance on that corresponding to the red wire in the instructions. It was late last night when I hooked up the motor and I thought the gears were moving in the right direction but I was probably working from the back side and had the wrong perspective. Anyhoo for anyone interested in installing this motor white=red and white/orange=black. The mechanism behaves remarkably close to normal when run in reverse but all is well now.

I actually finally noticed the issue watching my own video. I was quite convinced I had hooked up the motor right and the gears were moving correctly.

The last things I have planned for this are to replace the three electrolytic caps on the S&CC as well as the battery. I'd like to use the memory function but don't trust that old crusty button cell even though somehow it still shows 3v after all these years. Will also replace the caps on the midrange speakers while I'm at it.

Mine was working as is so I only had to refurbish it with new capacitors. You could check the transistors for shorts I suppose.
